Ballyshannon to Belfast, N. Ireland
Wednesday September 14, 2011
Ty and I were up at the crack of dawn again today, excited for our final day in Ireland and happy to execute one of our best kept secrets. Unbeknownst to our faithful readers, we actually made an appointment with a couple of tatooists named Lisa and Ruth in Donegal, just up the road from our family grave site in Omagh. We had the Nichol family crest drawn up along with our latin motto and today we got matching father-son tatoos on our right calves. It took several hours and involved some good old fashioned pain and whimpering but it was worth it.
Following our tattoos, we finally bid goodbye to Donegal (we had our laundry done!) and drove to Belfast stopping at Londonderrry and a few sites along the way. The weather cleared after lunch and the wind stopped blowing!
We made it to Belfast at sundown but managed to walk around downtown for a while. Finding a hotel or B&B proved very difficult and we clocked up a couple hours driving around before we finally found a Guest House, though we are very lost.
In the morning, we will tour some car bombing sites and look at the bullet holes in the post office before turning our car in and grabbing a flight to London.
