Why they don't wear helmets down here...

Thursday September 20, 2012

Just another day in the life and times. A couple of us went to the plant and worked on translating our Risk Assessments to Portuguese all day today again. We were talking to one of the interpreters the other day and I asked why so few motorcyclists wear helmets down here.  The answer was that when rival drug gangs have been at war, the drug runners wore shaded helmets and were often shot point blank in the street and so, even though it contradicts every good notion about safety, the locals still won't wear helmets lest they take a bullet.  Believe it or not!

Lunch was served in the cafeteria ("Cantina") at work again today. It turns out they switch it up every day so I'll be eating decent lunches.  The evening dinner at my hotel is getting old as its a small plate of salad, a cup of rice and some type of meat. Last night it was pork spine.  I do believe I will be walking down to see Rosemary's Cantina at least every other night...

Todays lunch: Salad (with soya), Rice and beans, Beef and coconut dessert.
